FACIAL PALSY CLINIC

The Facial Palsy Clinic is a collaborative, multidisciplinary team that provides care to pediatric and adult patients with facial paralysis.

​Our team consists of members from plastic surgery, ENT, nursing, and physiotherapy.

About Facial Palsy

A facial palsy refers to weakness or paralysis of the facial muscles, resulting from temporary or permanent paralysis of the facial nerve (cranial nerve VII). This may affect one or both sides of the face. 

The causes of a facial nerve palsy are varied and include:

  • Traumatic injury

  • Neurologic conditions

  • Viral infections (Bells Palsy, Ramsay-Hunt)

  • Birth trauma

  • Post-oncologic surgical resection

  • Bacterial infections 

  • Genetic syndromes such as (Moebius, CHARGE syndome)

  • Ischemic interruption (stroke)
